A table mat in molded silicone, 430 x 280 mm, cut to the scalloped line of a Korean eave and bordered with sumaksae (수막새), the round tile that caps the end of each row of roof tiles. The sumaksae is the piece that faces out from the roofline, and the motifs pressed into it, lotus and cloud and dokkaebi, were there to hold trouble off the house. Here they run as a fine engraved line around the border: a ring of eight blunt lotus petals inside each medallion, and a curling vine with a row of small beads carrying between them. Mimidar cuts its own mold for the mat and makes it in Korea in KCC silicone, in a food-contact grade, and the underside carries a small embossed mimidar mark. Two colorways off the same mold, light gray and dark gray.
430 x 280 mm takes a dinner plate with a spoon and chopsticks alongside, or a bowl and two side dishes. The underside is textured, and the mat has enough thickness and weight to stay where you put it on a bare table rather than sliding as you eat; it lies flat instead of curling at the corners, and rolls up loosely to store. Hot water, dishwasher and microwave are all fine. Strongly colored food will stain if it sits, so rinse kimchi, curry and gochujang off rather than leaving them. Silicone shrinks a little as it cures, so sizes vary slightly piece to piece.

- Dishwasher safe, and fine with hot water and the microwave. Rinse off strongly colored food rather than letting it sit, since kimchi, curry and gochujang can stain the surface. For marks that stay or a smell that lingers, soak the mat in hot water with a spoonful of baking soda and two or three drops of vinegar. Gochujang and kimchi leave carotenoid pigment, which is oil-soluble rather than water-soluble, so drying the mat in sunlight also draws the stain out. Keep it away from open flame and direct heat, and off sharp blades and rough scouring pads, which scratch the surface. Dry flat, then store it flat or rolled loosely.

What's your return policy?
Returns accepted within 14 days of delivery, in original condition. Email contact@shopsoodam.com for a return authorization first. Buyer covers return shipping for change-of-mind; customs duties and the $25 shipping fee (on orders under $150) are non-refundable.
What if it arrives damaged?
That's on us. Email contact@shopsoodam.com within 7 days with your order number and photos of the item and packaging. We'll send a replacement or a full refund, your choice.
Can I cancel or change my order?
Within 1 hour of ordering, yes. After that we'll try, but we forward orders to studios in Korea within 24 hours, so it depends on whether preparation has started. Email contact@shopsoodam.com right away.
How does store credit work?
