A wine stopper in cast zinc alloy, colored in enamel, built around hojakdo (호작도), the magpie-and-tiger painting Joseon households hung at the gate each New Year: the tiger drives misfortune off, the magpie brings the good news in. The genre doubled as satire, the tiger standing in for a corrupt official, which is why the face is comic rather than fearsome. Mimidar left every line raised in brass between the enamel fields and layered the metal so the magpie lifts off the branch. The two green tassels are pine needles.
Everything above the plug is metal, and the weight is part of how the seal holds. The silicone below steps down through five ridges and closes bottle mouths from 16 to 20 mm, so whisky, spirits and oil bottles keep under it as well as wine; it seals without going all the way in. 105 mm tall and 128 g, which is enough to stand well above the neck, so a stoppered bottle will not clear a low fridge shelf. The plug pulls off the metal for washing. Tested by SGS and clear of heavy metals.
The case is the throne room at Gyeongbokgung, shrunk: kkotsalmun (꽃살문) lattice on the doors, the Irwolobongdo screen inside, and the stopper standing on the red seat in the middle. Notes in Korean and English explain the painting.

- Before first use, separate the metal from the silicone plug, wash the plug, and dry both with a cloth. To remove the stopper from a bottle, wobble it gently and lift straight up rather than levering it sideways, which can pull the metal off the silicone. Metal dislikes moisture and oil: wipe it dry as soon as either touches it, and wipe it down with a dry cloth before long storage. Deliberate scuffs and shading are part of the antique finish; the enamel can carry faint specks, pinholes or dust from casting; and the upper and lower metal parts are assembled with slight play that varies piece to piece. None of these are faults. Silicone stains in dark liquid over time, though this plug is dark enough that it rarely shows. Assembled by hand, so dimensions vary slightly.

Returns accepted within 14 days of delivery, in original condition. Email contact@shopsoodam.com for a return authorization first. Buyer covers return shipping for change-of-mind; customs duties and the $25 shipping fee (on orders under $150) are non-refundable.
What if it arrives damaged?
That's on us. Email contact@shopsoodam.com within 7 days with your order number and photos of the item and packaging. We'll send a replacement or a full refund, your choice.
Can I cancel or change my order?
Within 1 hour of ordering, yes. After that we'll try, but we forward orders to studios in Korea within 24 hours, so it depends on whether preparation has started. Email contact@shopsoodam.com right away.
How does store credit work?
