A small bowl with a rim that rises and falls like a slow wave, so no two sides of it sit at the same height. The clay is flecked through with iron, which reads as scattered brown specks under a soft off-white glaze, and the dip in the rim is deep enough to give a spoon somewhere to rest.

Yido shaped it for a chef collection, which explains the proportions: it is sized for the finishing part of a dish. Ten centimeters across and five deep, which is a sauce, two or three spoonfuls of banchan (반찬), the small side dishes that come with a Korean meal, a scoop of sorbet, or whatever is being spooned over something else. It goes down last.

Yido shapes each one by hand, so size and capacity vary a little from piece to piece. Speckles, faint pinholes and slight differences in tilt come from the firing and the hand, not from damage.

Yido Pottery makes tableware in Yeoju, the ceramics town southeast of Seoul. It sells in named lines (Sun, Yul, Yunseul, Yuun, Cheongyeon, Onyu, Soho, Yunbit) that run from a single bowl or plate up to full settings for two to six, and alongside the dinnerware it makes centerpieces and gift objects, works with outside artists, and takes on custom and commercial commissions.

Its own account of the work starts with nature: every design begins there and is finished in the clay. The studio says it watches the colors of the seasons before it shapes anything, and that it would rather look at a piece for a long time than make it quickly. The same argument is aimed at the person buying, that choosing slowly and keeping a thing for years beats filling a cupboard fast. Each piece passes through eight pairs of hands at the Yeoju workshop: wedging the clay, throwing, trimming, stamping the seal, the first firing, glazing, the second firing, and a final inspection.

CARE: Wash soon after use; avoid long soaking and abrasive scourers. For stubborn stains or lingering smells, soak in water with one or two drops of vinegar, then wash. Make sure the piece is completely dry before microwaving. Handle the rim with care on the drying rack.

What's your return policy?

Returns accepted within 14 days of delivery, in original condition. Email contact@shopsoodam.com for a return authorization first. Buyer covers return shipping for change-of-mind. Import duties paid at checkout and shipping are not refunded on returns.

What if it arrives damaged?

That's on us. Email contact@shopsoodam.com within 7 days with your order number and photos of the item and packaging. We'll send a replacement or a full refund, your choice.
