From Insoil, a porcelain studio that began in a Seoul house in 2016 and now works from Yeonhui, west of the city. Insoil designs from the quiet satisfactions of an ordinary day, often posed as a question — here, what it would be to set the moon on the table.

A shallow plate carved with a full moon draped in cloud — worked in eumyanggak (음양각), the Korean technique that combines recessed and raised relief — set near one edge as a shallow sauce well. The design is patented: empty, the carving reads as clouds over the moon; pour in soy sauce or vinegar and the dark liquid settles into the recesses while the raised moon surfaces through it. It comes two ways: a clear glossy white, or a semi-matte white scattered with Insoil’s brown iron-oxide dots.

238mm across and 20mm deep, with the well sized for a dipping sauce — one plate that holds sushi or sashimi and its soy sauce together, so the table loses a dish. Porcelain fired at 1,250°C and certified by KICET (한국세라믹기술연구원) cadmium- and lead-free in both clay and glaze; microwave- and dishwasher-safe. On the semi-matte glaze, metal cutlery can leave faint marks, so wood is the safer choice for daily use.

Each piece is hand-formed and hand-glazed, so minor variation is part of the work: pinholes left where gas escaped during firing, occasional glaze drip lines, glazing-tong marks, and differences in dot pattern, sheen, and texture between pieces.

Things people ask

Will I have to pay customs or import taxes?

No. Every order ships DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) — all customs duties and import taxes are built into the product price, so your parcel arrives with nothing more to pay.

How long until it arrives?

We need 1 to 5 business days to confirm with the studio and prepare your order. Korea Post EMS is 3 to 7 business days in transit. Made-to-order pieces take 5 to 10 business days to prepare; we note this on the product page.

What's your return policy?

Returns accepted within 14 days of delivery, in original condition. Email contact@shopsoodam.com for a return authorization first. Buyer covers return shipping for change-of-mind; customs duties and the $25 shipping fee (on orders under $150) are non-refundable.

What if it arrives damaged?

That's on us. Email contact@shopsoodam.com within 7 days with your order number and photos of the item and packaging. We'll send a replacement or a full refund, your choice.

Can I cancel or change my order?

Within 1 hour of ordering, yes. After that we'll try, but we forward orders to studios in Korea within 24 hours, so it depends on whether preparation has started. Email contact@shopsoodam.com right away.

How does store credit work?

Every order earns 5% of the subtotal back as store credit, added to your account once your order ships. It applies automatically at checkout and stays valid for 6 months.
