The spoon is cut from jagae (자개) — mother-of-pearl, the iridescent inner layer of shell, and the same material used in najeon, the Korean craft of inlaying mother-of-pearl into lacquer. The pattern marbles naturally through the bowl and handle, so the swirl falls differently on each one.
At 12cm it suits caviar, yogurt, jam, or dessert. Mother-of-pearl doesn't oxidize, so it carries delicate food without adding a metallic note.
Each spoon is finished by hand, so small variations in pattern, color, size, and surface are part of the material rather than flaws. This is the white colorway, sold in sets of two or four; because the marbling is natural, no two spoons in a set match exactly.
