Gleamy Space is the woodworking studio of Park Subin, working in solid oak and walnut in Wonju. Its Korean name, 빈공간, sounds like “empty space” — but Subin writes the 빈 with the character 彬, which pictures light pouring into a forest, so the name turns instead into a space made to gleam. She means the kind of light that makes an object worth looking at: afternoon sun, or the moon on a dark night.
Cut timber passes through her hands to exist as objects again. She draws shapes from daily life, nature, dreams, and movement, and mostly makes the things she would want to keep herself — pieces meant to grow beside you, fed by the attention you give them.
