The sumaksae is the piece that faces out from the roofline, and the motifs pressed into it, lotus and cloud and dokkaebi, were there to hold trouble off the house. Here they run as a fine engraved line around the border: a ring of eight blunt lotus petals inside each medallion, and a curling vine with a row of small beads carrying between them.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTwo colorways come off the same mold, light gray and dark gray, and a set can mix them. Two mats lay a table for dinner opposite each other; four covers a four-seat table with room between the settings. Each one takes a dinner plate with a spoon and chopsticks alongside, or a bowl and two side dishes. The textured underside and the weight keep them from sliding as you eat, and they lie flat instead of curling at the corners.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMimidar cuts its own mold and makes the mats in Korea in KCC silicone, food-contact grade. Mimidar embosses a small mark underneath.
